Bishops to apologise to Muslims
The Church of England should arrange a meeting with Muslim leaders to say sorry for the Iraq war, a group of senior bishops suggests today.
Why?
If you oppose the war then do your best to describe why you oppose it. Reason your way through the pros and cons and reach a sensible, sincerely held position.
But don’t belittle your audience - and yourselves - with crocodile tears. The bishops’ apologies, however well-intentioned, cannot possibly be sincere since you can’t apologise for something you didn’t do. And what do you say to the millions of Iraqis who actually want to thank the coalition for the war? I guess their views are considered unworthy….
I try to be even-handed with the religious because not sharing their faith isn’t reason enough to be rude to them. And many religious people lead far better lives than their critics. But this kind of ‘reaching-out’ PC nonsense just invites derision.

If I still had time to blog, I’d be seething about this. You’re doing quite well in my stead, though.
:-D

I’m an Anglican, and I don’t remember ever being consulted by the bishops on this subject. I wonder if their apology will include one to the Iraqi victims of Saddam for abandoning them for so long, to the citizens of e.g. Burma for continuing in ignoring their situation, and to Iraq post-war for the total failure of the church to offer any assistance at all to those still facing daily terror and violence? Well, of course I don’t wonder at all.

Now James, you’re just being difficult aren’t you? The Church of England respectfully requests you stop pointing out the silliness of their various stances and instead put a sock in it…
But while we’re at it has anyone apologised for the slave trade yet? I thought certain agitators were after a bit of lip-service from the evil white man - can’t the C of E be a bit obliging and do the necessary there also?

What on earth does this mean?
We’re sorry, we sunk your battleship?

It means that these Bishops should do us all a favour, convert to Islam, and then apologise to us!!

While they’re apologising for things they didn’t do, could they please apologise for the Ottoman Empire, the Saracen invasions and Sept 11th?
